Kenya Karia-Ini Peaberry – Fully Washed Kirinyaga Single Origin Coffee

This vibrant and structured single origin coffee comes from the Karia-Ini Factory in Kirinyaga County, Kenya. Produced by smallholder farmers from the Mwirua Farmers’ Cooperative Society, this peaberry lot showcases the clarity and intensity that Kenyan washed coffees are known for.

Roasted by Ekhaya Roasters in Strand, South Africa, this coffee delivers crisp acidity, layered fruit sweetness, and a refined, honeyed finish.

After harvest, ripe cherries are delivered to the wet mill where they are pulped within 24 hours. The coffee is then fermented in water-filled cement tanks for 18 to 48 hours to remove remaining mucilage. Once fermentation is complete, the beans are washed and dried on raised beds in the open sun, carefully raked throughout the day to ensure even drying.

The result is a clean, expressive, and beautifully balanced Kenyan peaberry.

About This Coffee:

Karia-Ini Factory is part of the Mwirua Farmers’ Cooperative Society and services over 500 smallholder farmers in Kirinyaga. The region’s high elevation and fertile soils create ideal growing conditions for dense, high-quality cherries.

The fully washed process enhances clarity and brightness in the cup. Controlled fermentation breaks down the mucilage, while slow drying on raised beds allows for even moisture reduction and flavour development. The peaberry selection contributes to a more concentrated and focused cup profile.

This is a classic example of what makes Kenyan coffee globally sought after, vibrant acidity, clean structure, and layered fruit character.

Cup Profile:

Expect a lively and expressive cup with bright cherry acidity, sweet honeyed undertones, and ripe berry complexity. It is crisp and structured, with a clean finish that lingers pleasantly.

Exceptional as a filter coffee, and equally dynamic as a fruit-forward espresso.
